The 80-20 Rule for Wellness

If you’re too busy for wellness, you might get better results using the 80-20 rule.

This perspective helps prioritise those easy wins that get you the best results in the shortest amount of time.

The 80-20 rule, or Pareto Principle, is the theory that 80% of the goal is achieved by only 20% of the effort.

For example if your goal is to eat healthier, make a list of all the healthy foods you could see yourself eating, then pick a smaller list of options that are the easiest to prepare.

You’ll feel just as proud after those quick-win healthy meals as you would have after a time-consuming recipe.

It works the other way around too, make a list of all the indulgent sweet treats you’d have over a week. Pick a select few that you’re allowed. You’ll notice that those 20% of treats actually deliver a huge proportion of the satisfaction.

The numbers 80 and 20 aren’t a hard and fast rule, it’s just the concept that small efforts can have the biggest consequences!
