Fire Cider: A Powerful Immune Tonic

Fire cider is a traditional folk remedy that combines immune-boosting ingredients in a potent, warming tonic. This spicy vinegar preparation helps stimulate circulation, support digestion, and strengthen your body's natural defenses.

Ingredients

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 10 cloves of garlic, crushed or chopped
  • 1 chilli
  • Zest and juice from 1 lemon
  • 1 fresh grated ginger root
  • Half fresh grated horseradish root
  • 1 Tbsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne powder
  • 2 tbsp of dried rosemary leaves
  • Organic apple cider vinegar
  • Optional: local honey, or to taste

Instructions

  1. Chop up your vegetables, spices and herbs and place them in a large glass container with a tight-fitting lid (like a Kilner jar)
  2. Fill the jar with apple cider vinegar and add 1 tbsp of honey if you like, leaving a gap at the top to make it easy to shake the jar daily
  3. Stir the contents well and close the lid tightly
  4. Label the jar with the contents and date made, and place in a cupboard or cover with a towel to keep out the light
  5. Shake daily for 14 days and then press out and pour into dark glass bottles
  6. Label and store in the fridge for up to 12 months

Take 1-2 tablespoons daily as a preventive tonic, or sip small amounts when feeling unwell. The longer it steeps, the more potent it becomes.
